Laser Hair Removal FAQ: Simple And To The Point

Author: Abdul Nusrat

What is laser hair removal and how does it work?

It is a relatively new treatment that makes use of lasers to remove hair from the body.

The practitioner uses a hand held device that emits a laser that penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the hair. Once absorbed heat energy is produces in the hair which travels down the shaft and destroys the root.

The laser uses a beam of light which penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the pigment colour in the hair where it is converted to heat.

Is it safe?

Yes. The laser settings are customised depending on your skin and hair colour. There is very little risk of any damage to your skin.

Will the laser hair removal treatment get rid of my hair permanently?

Tiny hair re-growth is possible but comparing laser hair removal with other methods of hair removal it produces the best long term results. Hair grown after the treatment is usually very thin and weak and can be easily treated.

Does it hurt?

Laser treatment is not completely painless, usually a slight sting can be felt but it is no where near the pain experienced when waxing or epilating. Most patients can bare it without the need of anaesthesia. However patients with very low pain thresholds can ask for a cream based anaesthesia to be applied to the skin.

Can everyone get it done?

No. I am afraid it is not possible to treat very light shades of hair such as white, grey, light blonde etc.

In addition to hair colour people with dark skin can only be treated with very specialised lasers available at very few laser hair removal clinics. Tanned people with light hair cannot be treated.

The treatment works best on light skinned people with dark hair.

How long does the treatment take?

That depends solely on the size of the area being operated on. It can take anywhere between 10 minutes, for parts such as the chin to about 35 minutes for the back.

What areas can be treated?

Apart from parts very close to the eye all other areas such as legs, back, arms, bikini line, chest etc can be treated.

How much does it cost?

Laser hair removal treatment is not cheap. That depends on the size of the area being treated. Usually it costs about 200 dollars per session of small areas such as the upper lip/chin rising to 500 for large areas such as the back and the legs.

How many sessions are required?

Many factors come into play and it varies from patient to patient but usually anywhere between three and six are needed for the best results.

What should I expect after the laser hair removal treatment?

The laser treatment area goes pink after the treatment, like sunburn, and stays that way for about one to two days. Minor discomfort will be felt during this period. The laser treated hair falls off by itself within a few days.

Hair Removal- All About Waxing
Author: CD Mohatta

Some of us have problem of hair loss, while a majority wants to get rid of hair from different places on the body. It may the bikini are, or the thin hair line over the upper lip, or hair on the chest and back of men, or hair on legs, and armpits. Everybody wants to know about the method that will help remove hair for a long time without undergoing much trouble. Let us take a brief look at the methods of hair removal.

Waxing- One of the oldest and most common methods for hair removal is waxing. Waxing can be done both with cold wax and hot wax and now with waxing kits available in the market, you can wax yourself at home. In hot waxing, hot wax is spread on the skin, covered with a strip of cloth, allowed to dry and pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth. This pulls away most of the hair from the hair shaft. This method may be painful and you must take care of the temperature of hot wax, and skin irritation after waxing. Waxing can also cause folliculititis, ingrown hair a, scars and hyperpigmentation.

You can wax any part of the body, small or big in size, except the bikini area. If you are taking oral Vitamin A derivative pills such as Isotretnoin, you need to avoid waxing till your doctor advises. It also applies to topical applications of Vitamin A derivative creams. All these products dry the skin and there is a possibility of hurting the skin while waxing. You should avoid waxing if you have irritated skin, broken sun burnt or bruised. Waxing should be performed on healthy skin only.

Waxing removes hair from the root of the shaft and removes a large quantity of hair at a time. It takes about two weeks for hair to grow. With repetitive waxing of hair, you can expect less hair because of permanent damage to the hair follicle.

The Benefits of Professional Laser Hair Removal
Author: Colin P

Unwanted hair is a problem for both women and men. While historically women have primarily sought out professional assistance for hair removal, more and more men are seeking such services in the 21st century. The preferred method of professional hair removal at this point in time for both men and women rapidly is becoming laser hair removal.

There are a number of definite benefits to obtaining professional laser hair removal as opposed to some of the other common methods of dealing with unwanted hair. The only major drawback to professional laser hair removal really appears to the cost associated with the process. However, as technology has improved, the costs associated with the laser procedure has become to drop over time.

The most basic, primary benefit of laser hair removal is found in the fact that for most people only one treatment is required. Once a person submits to the laser hair removal process, unwanted hair normally is removed permanently. In a few isolated cases a person does have to come back for a follow up treatment. With advances in laser technology in the past decade, repeat appearances for additional sessions is becoming more rare all of the time.

The fact that unwanted hair can be removed permanently in most cases through laser hair removal contrasts starkly with other treatment regimens. As an example, waxing to remove hair continues to be used by a considerable number of women and men who want to banish undesired growth. For many people, waxing is at least a monthly if not more frequent process.

Another of the benefits associated with laser hair removal is found in the fact that it is largely pain free. In some instances, a person who has undergone this procedure will experience some skin irritation following the procedure. Certainly, there will be some mild yet temporary redness of the skin following laser hair removal. However, the procedure itself is painless.

Again, you can contrast the pain free removal of unwanted hair with waxing. Depending on what part of your body is being waxed, the process of hair removal in that fashion can be downright painful. Other forms of hair removal, such as shaving, can irritate the skin for a significant period of time. Rashes and other types of unsightly skin blemishes are common following the shaving off of unwanted hair at certain locations on body.

Laser hair removal is also a convenient and time saving method for dealing with unwanted growth. As mentioned previously, more often than not one treatment will work to permanently rid a person of unwanted hair. While a single session under the laser will take longer than one waxing treatment, when all is said and done you will end up saving a great deal of time by undertaking laser hair removal as opposed to other forms of hair removal. You will not need to make continual appointments and interrupt your already full schedule to deal with unwanted hair growth.

In the final analysis, more and more people are turning to laser hair removal as the most reliable, convenient and reasonably priced alternative for the removal of unwanted hair. Indeed, most experts in the field of cosmetics and related services believe that in the very near future, laser hair removal will be the primary means through which both women and men deal with the permanent removal of unwanted hair growth.

Laser Hair Removal - Clinic
Author: Barry Hooper

There are many important decisions to consider before opting for cosmetic laser hair removal. With the current trend for hairless, smooth skin, in both men and women, there are many unlicensed, untrained and unqualified practitioners around. There is also a substantial amount of misinformation on this subject.

It is up to you as the customer to practice due diligence and ensure that you receive top class treatment from a fully qualified practitioner. Firstly, ensure that the person who is actually going to be treating you has undergone specific training and is a Certified Laser Specialist (CLS). This qualification may vary from state to state and country to country. If you are in even the slightest doubt, contact your doctor for his or her recommendations.

Once you have a clinic in mind, go check it out. Go in, sit down, look around. Is it clean? Is it comfortable? Is there plenty of information available on all procedures and possible complications or side effects? Does the equipment look well maintained? Modern? Most clinics offer the initial consultation free of charge. This is basically a chat with a qualified technician, who will ascertain whether your expectations are realistic, and who will decide whether you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.

Before you go into the clinic for a general meeting, do your research. Check reliable sources of information online. Then cross-check to ensure that the information is accurate. Laser hair removal is a technique which uses high powered equipment. In untrained hands, it can be disastrous, causing serious skin damage.

While chatting to your technician, take note of whether the he or she appeared professional --- are they really interested in how the procedure would work for you? Or do they seem more interested in how much you will be paying?

Pay attention to the equipment. Make sure that the laser is licensed by the FDA for use as an instrument for laser hair removal. A motivated, interested and dedicated practitioner will be pleased to explain everything you need to know, and to answer every question you have. They will explain how they can minimize pain or discomfort.

Technology is changing fast, and being updated quickly, but at the present time, all lasers used for hair removal must be “long pulsed”. The Alexandrite type of laser is very effective when the patient’s skin is light and the hair is dark enough to attract the beam down deep into the hair follicle. Remember the skill of the practitioner is equally important as the machine. Proper training could well make the difference between you having permanent hair removal or having to have repeat treatments.

The second type of laser machine is Nd:YAG, ideally with a Q switch. It works on most skin types and this is the most efficient type of equipment for treating darker skin types, such as Asian, Hispanic and Middle Eastern. To use the traditional type laser on darker skins can result in serious burning or loss of skin pigmentation.

Spending some of your valuable free time researching laser hair removal will pay you back many times over, not to mention saving you possible pain and anguish. Put in the time now to locate a licensed qualified practitioner, and have the benefit of sleek smooth skin for many years to come.

Hair Removal Thanks To A Nobel Prize Awarded Invention
by Keith George

Lasers are used in many fields for surgery, for example Lasik for eye surgery. It is also used for the rapid and gentle removal of unwanted hair. This technique is not for everyone and their proper use requires great expertise. If you are contemplating laser hair removal you need to learn about this field to properly evaluate if and where to have laser hair removal performed.

There are many competing technologies, some working very well and some that are already outmoded. They can all offer particular advantages for certain patient populations. Learn more here so you can decide if you are a candidate for laser hair removal. You will also find some answers to the most frequent questions concerning this new advance.

Laser hair removal is not for everyone and the absolute requirement is that your hair must be darker than the surrounding skin. Furthermore very darkly pigmented people absorb too much laser energy in their skin so they are not the best candidates for laser hair removal. Tanned persons with light hair are no good candidates and tanned persons with dark hair should wait until their tan fades before they are treated. Finally the cost for the treatment should be within reach of the patient. Laser hair removal is less expensive than electrolysis but it takes multiple treatments so generally the cost will be more than $1000 in total for most anatomic areas.

The cost varies of course with the size of the area treated. Many laser centers, which have developed expertise in laser hair removal, generally average about $500 per treatment session, with an average of four treatment sessions initially recommended. If the treated areas are large, such as the entire back or the entire legs, the cost will be considerably more. And for small areas, such as the upper lip, the cost will be less. Before the treatment starts you will have an indication of how much the total cost will be.

If you have a light skin it will be easier to perform laser hair removal. The number of treatments will be fewer and the result will be better and obtained faster. For persons with darker skin the treatment will make a good result but it will take more sessions. Experienced personal will be needed as laser hair removal must be individualized for each patient.

A dark hair absorbs more laser energy and is therefore easier to treat and a coarse dark hair responds the best to laser treatment. Light hair is more difficult to treat effectively and blonde or red hair is very difficult to treat. Here are multiple treatment sessions required and the results vary more.

There are some areas that cannot be treated, for example adjacent to the eyes. Most patients request laser hair removal from the face, upper lip, neck, chest, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line and the legs.

For the newer lasers there is clear documention of permanent hair reduction after each treatment and the FDA has approved several lasers for permanent hair reduction. The results seem to be additive so that more treatments lead to greater degrees of permanent hair reduction. As always it is hard to predict the results precisely, they can vary some but generally the modern lasers produce a very good result.

Using Lasers In Beauty Treatments
by Gabriel Adams

The word laser brings to mind images of science fiction spaceship fights, and other futuristic harmful uses. Lasers, however, are much more frequently used to help people rather than to harm them. The use of lasers in beauty treatments is a relatively new development, but their precise targeting and many different levels of strength make lasers an ideal tool in cosmetic procedures.

One of the first ways that lasers were used in beauty treatments was in laser hair removal. Performed even more frequently today. The laser is aimed at your skin and is pulsed at a point of dark pigment (the hair itself), which is meant to cause a thermal charge which destroys the hair follicle at the end of the hair. This causes the existing hair to fall out and also kills the hair follicle so that future hair cannot grow. Generally, light skinned individuals with dark hair tend to have the best results from laser hair removal, and the process is not as effective on blond, red or gray hair. If the laser hair removal is not done correctly, however, it can cause burns and other unwanted skin problems.

Lasers can also be used to remove unwanted skin decorations, as in tattoo removal. Tattoos have become more and more popular over the last few years, and people are also becoming more concerned with removing tattoos that were done in their youth. Laser tattoo removal is a process where a laser is aimed at the dark ink in the layers of your skin. The laser literally burns away this dark ink via a chemical reaction, causing the tattoo to disappear over several treatments. Tattoo removal generally works best on professional tattoos that were performed with dark colors of ink,

Lasers help doctors and cosmeticians everyday in their quest to make their patients look better. There are many other medical and scientific uses of lasers - but the cosmetic industry definitely owes a big thank you to this technology.

Long Island Laser Hair Removal

By: Dion Semeniuk

With so many choices, narrowing your search down to just one Long Island laser hair removal clinic or spa can be challenging.

Long Island is home to around eight million people with many wanting to maintain a youthful look. In fact, if you look around the entire country, the number of people using hair laser removal treatments is growing. Therefore, Long Island is no different. People typically want to do all they can to look and feel the best possible. For some, getting rid of excessive or unwanted hair is one way to accomplish that.

Although competition among jobs is strong all over, it is especially competitive in New York. In this state, you would find top designers, world-renowned modeling agencies, theater professionals, Fortune 500 businesspeople, and the list goes on.

All of these people are doing what they can to stay on top of the game. With services provided by a Long Island laser hair removal clinic or spa, an individual can look younger, enjoying smoother skin.

This relatively painful procedure produces long-lasting and permanent hair reduction. In addition to the beauty aspect of laser treatments, this option is also beneficial for preventing ingrown hair. Many people struggle with this problem, which can cause great irritation to the skin. In fact, ingrown hairs can lead to infection and pain. By visiting a Long Island laser hair removal, the problem can be resolved, quickly, and easily.

During laser treatment, a concentrated light from the equipment is actually absorbed into the skin pigmentation. This light then penetrates and destroys the hair residing within the follicle. Keep in mind that unlike shaving or old methods for hair removal, laser treatments targets just the hair and not the skin. However, to ensure this is what happens, the person at the Long Island laser hair removal clinic or spa must be appropriate trained and licensed. Otherwise, you could be putting yourself at risk.

Although millions of people have experienced successful laser hair removal treatment, some have greater outcomes than other people do. For instance, the surrounding skin should be lighter than the hair. For this reason, people of darker skin and those with light hair do not achieve results as high as someone with light skin and dark hair would.

To determine if you are a good candidate, you would need to go through a consultation. In fact, as you do research to find the right clinic or spa, if a consultation is not provided – leave! Typically, any Long Island laser hair removal business would provide this consultation free of charge in anticipation of securing your business. Additionally, while a small number of people will have results with just one treatment, most need between two and four, although sometimes, it takes up to nine for optimal results.

Dion Semeniuk has taken the time and research to learn what is all involved in laser hair removal. To learn more, visit the Laser Hair Removal website.

Factors Affecting Laser Hair Removal
by Doug Smith

It would be surprising if you haven't considered trying laser hair removal by now. Almost everyone has some form of unwanted body hair. Many hail it as a magical hair removal method. The doctor merely waves his magic laser wand over the unwanted hair and it is gone forever. This is wishful thinking. There is a great deal of science involved in laser hair removal, and many factors can affect the quality of the treatment.

Beam Strength

It is obvious that the strength of the laser beam affects the quality of the laser hair removal session. Just as it is more effective to extinguish a flame with the water pressure of a fire hose than with a garden hose, the "light pressure" of a laser can make the difference between excellent results and no results at all. The doctor must control the beam strength carefully, such as through the time of exposure.

Wavelength

Many different laser wavelengths have been tried for laser hair removal. The wavelength is a measure of the distance between adjacent waves of the laser light. Lasers are characterized by the material used to create the laser light, such as alexandrite, argon, and ruby. Each material generates laser light of a specific wavelength, and some wavelengths of laser light are more effective against hair than others.

Beam Width

The laser beam width is the diameter of the circle that the laser beam makes on the skin. The ideal beam width is estimated to be four times as wide as the distance that the beam must travel into the skin. for example, if the hair roots were 0.05 inches beneath the skin, the ideal beam with would be about 0.20 inches wide.

Pulsewidth

Most laser hair removal is performed by the doctor holding the laser over a specific area and turning the laser on for a specific time period. This time period is known as the pulsewidth. If the pulsewidth is too short, the hair might not be destroyed. If it is too long, the surrounding skin may be damaged. The doctor may vary the pulsewidth until he finds one that works for each specific patient.

Cooling The Skin During Treatment

One of the newer developments is the cooling of the skin during laser hair removal treatment. Skin cooling allows the doctor to use a "hotter" laser for longer periods of time without damaging the skin. Several methods of skin cooling are performed before, during, or even after the treatment.

Skin and Hair Color

The microwave oven targets the moisture in food, vibrating it up until it heats up and cooks the food. Similarly, laser hair removal targets color. Better results are obtained when there is great contrast between the skin color and the hair color. Specifically, black hair in very pale skin is the ideal laser hair removal scenario. On the other hand, blonde or white hair in that same very pale skin would be more difficult to remove, because there is little hair color for the laser to target. The darker the patient's skin is, the more of the laser gets absorbed into the skin, and the less laser light reaches the unwanted hair.

A Science And An Art

Many scientific variables control the effectiveness of laser hair removal. However, the doctor must use professional judgment to vary these things so that each patient receives the best possible hair removal treatment.

Laser Hair Removal - The Only Permanent Choice
by Tamra Cantar

Laser hair removal is the new black for hair removal consumers. In fact it's been that way since the mid-sixties, if you knew where to look. These days the market is swamped with competing technologies, with physicians, electrologists, beauticians and self-proclaimed 'laserologists' all vying for your attention - and your credit card details. But lasers aren't for everyone, and proper treatment requires some serious training and education. So if you're considering 'LHR' as a solution to your excess hair trouble, you need to know the facts.

First off, the science. Laser treatment works by delivering light into your skin. It comes from a hand-piece at a specified wavelength. It targets dark matter, such as the pigment in your hair. So while the tissue surrounding the follicle is ignored, the laser causes thermal and/or mechanical damage to the hair follicle and inhibits its ability to produce hair.

Sounds good, right? Well, it is. Done properly, laser hair removal is safe, it's very useful for large areas (unlike electrolysis), and many consumers report long lasting hair removal or permanent hair reduction. Those with light-skin and dark hair have the best results, and if there is re-growth, it's often much lighter and softer than the original hair.

It's worth bearing in mind though that there's nothing long-term about how safe or effective this method of hair removal is. In fact, recent research has raised concerns about the effect of laser irradiation on other skin structures. Low-skilled treatment can result in burns, lesions, temporary skin discoloration, as well as patchy re-growth. Beyond this, laser treatment can be expensive, painful, and sometimes ineffective, even for those who fit the bill completely.

The bottom line - it's a good idea for some, not so much for others. Just don't trust any claims that sound too good to be true. If a practitioner doesn't admit to all of the above, he's more interested in your wallet than in your satisfaction, and if he's using words like 'guaranteed' in his sales pitch, steer clear. Remember that while some users experience permanent hair removal, many don't. There are also inadequate controls governing the proper application of treatment from state to state.

The best thing you can do is shop around. Even the best doctors are salespeople, so there'll be plenty of hype to read through before you get to the nitty gritty. If you're really confused, probably the safest person to use is a dermatologist or plastic surgeon, with specific training and qualifications in laser treatment.

Don't be afraid to call first and get all of your awkward questions out of the way. A decent, considerate physician will be more than happy to help. Set up a consultation with the person who will be carrying out the treatment. Talk to some other clients if you can. You should even be able to get some test patches done, somewhere that won't show too much if something goes wrong. Keep tabs on your findings and take your time. This is an important - and sometimes expensive - procedure. You probably can't afford to get it wrong.

A Quick Guide To Laser Hair Removal
by Bo Collins

Laser hair removal has come a long way in the last ten years and is now one of the most requested cosmetic procedures. The days are long gone when the procedure was mainly recommended for individuals with fair skin and dark hair, as major advances in laser technology have opened the door to successful treatments for all skin types. Laser hair removal can be applied to just about any 'problem hair' area of the body and is equally appropriate for both men and women. So if you think you're a candidate for laser hair removal treatment, let's take a look at some of the common questions asked about the procedure before you decide to put your body on the line.

What Is A Laser? A laser is nothing more than an intense beam of light energy. In laser hair removal, the laser beam is delivered to the skin via a handheld 'pen-like' device by your dermatologic surgeon. The method is quite ingenious as the laser is designed to focus on the dark pigment in the hair follicle and destroy it without damaging the surrounding (lighter) skin tissue.

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent? At the time of writing, 100% permanent hair removal remains an elusive goal. However, clinical results indicate you can expect the successful removal of unwanted hair for a period of up to ten years. Some individuals will see long term results while others may need some maintenance treatments over time.

How Much Does It Cost? The cost for laser hair removal treatments varies depending on the area to be treated. It is common to find 'per session' prices from around $150 for an upper lip treatment to around $650 for a full back treatment. Of course our individual needs differ and some folk will require shorter treatments while others may need additional sessions to achieve the desired result.

How Many Treatments Will I Need? Depending on the type of hair you have, it will take about 3-6 treatments to produce the desired results. This is because your hair grows in 3 phases (the growing phase, the dormant phase and the resting phase) and laser treatments can only target hair that is in the growing phase which is about 85% of all body hairs at any given time. You simply have to wait for the other 15% to enter the growing phase before they can be treated. The good news is each successive treatment should be faster and less expensive.

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful? The actual feeling is not unlike being snapped with a rubber band and most people would not classify it as pain.

What About Side Effects? For a few hours after the treatment there is usually a little redness and maybe some slight swelling; not unlike what you would experience after a waxing session. Within 24 hours, you are back to normal.

It is important to note that like any medical procedure, there is the potential for complications to arise which may include burning, changes in pigmentation, persistent redness and swelling and possible scarring. As always, it is best to consult your dermatologic surgeon concerning the risks involved in the procedure.

What Should I Do Before A Treatment? Your treatment clinic will have a list of do's and don'ts that you will need to be aware of prior to you appointment. However, as a general rule, the skin to be treated should be as natural as possible when you present for a laser hair removal treatment. That means no tans allowed! Not even fake tans.

Where Can I Find A Laser Hair Removal Clinic? It is wise to thoroughly check the credentials of the physician or technician performing the procedure prior to making an appointment. Most countries have a professional dermatology society with a directory of local accredited dermatologic surgeons that you are able to consult (in the US it is the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery).

Thanks to laser hair removal, it is at last possible to be problem hair free! Just make sure you do your research before taking the plunge and you will be well on the way to a bright and shiny you!

Laser Hair Removal - The Price of Removal
by Dion Semeniuk

Hair laser removal is a process by which the amount of hair and the growth rate of hair are significantly reduced. Although most people think of this process as being permanent, it is actually not but the results are still dramatic and well worth the investment. Both men and women use hair laser removal. If done by a qualified professional, people are very satisfied with the results. The one question that comes up repeatedly has to do with hair laser and the price for removal.

The truth is that this procedure will vary depending on where it is done, the type of laser used, and the amount of skin/hair being treated. Even so, you can expect to pay good money. Other factors associated with hair laser and price for removal would relate to the doctor performing the treatment, the type of package purchased, and the total number of treatments needed. For this reason, you cannot go by the cost that a friend or family member might have paid in that it could be different for your situation. The best option is to locate two or three professionals and schedule consultations with each before making your final decision.

The amount of hair and even type of hair will definitely determine the number of treatments to be performed. Typically, three treatments are recommended, providing the patient with several months of hair-free living. However, keep in mind this is just an average so again, the suggestion provided to you could be fewer or more. The best way to save money is to find a qualified doctor that offers a package deal. In this case, the more treatments in the package, the lower the price would go for each additional treatment.

To give you an idea of the current hair laser price for removal, let us say you live in the Midwest. The average cost for this region is around $450. Now, if you live in the East, the price actually goes down to an average of $425. For the West, the price is almost the same as the East with just a slight reduction in price. However, the lowest region for hair laser price for removal is in the South where you would expect to pay around $400 per treatment.

As mentioned, the amount of hair and type of hair needing to be removed also comes into play. For this, a man with excessive back hair would expect a single treatment to run between $700 and $900. However, for a female wanting a bikini line treatment, that price drops dramatically to between $400 and $500. Other prices would be $600 to $800 per treatment for upper and lower legs, $300 and $600 for chest and arms, around $600 to $900 for the face and neck, and then the cheapest hair laser price for removal would be under the arms with an average price of $200 to $350.

The one thing to remember is that throughout the United States, hair laser removal is deemed a cosmetic procedure, not a medical necessity. Because of this, it is highly unlikely that insurance would cover the cost. On a final note, if you have a unique situation caused by illness or injury, it might be possible for the hair laser price for removal to be covered. In this case, you would need to address your insurance company about possible assistance.

The Basics of Anti-Aging Skin Care
by: Sue Dolan

The very first question most people have when exploring the realm of anti-aging skin care is, “What skin rejuvenation products have been proven to be effective”? Accurate information regarding the multitude of anti-aging treatments flooding the marketplace is the best way to make informed decisions for developing your own skin rejuvenation regime which incorporates the anti-aging skin care techniques, strategies and treatments that best address your personal aging skin issues. The http://www.SkinCareResourceCenter.com explores all facets of anti-aging skin care and skin rejuvenation in the e-knowledge modules of The Skin Care e-Learning and Resource Center.

The basics of effective skin rejuvenation begin with the facts on anti-aging skin care treatments. There are several active ingredients that have been clinically proven to be effective skin rejuvenators. One of the most effective treatments is vitamin A derivatives such a retinol or retinyl palmitate.

The Retin A or Renova vitamin A treatments are the strongest although the most irritating treatments of the vitamin A options and are only available by prescription. If your skin needs major rejuvenation attention, ask your Doctor if you are a candidate for the prescription vitamin A treatment of Retin A or Renova.

If not, including one of the other retinol alternatives in your skin care routine is an excellent strategy. The concentration of over-the-counter retinol products can range up to 1%. The basic rule of thumb is, the higher the concentration, the stronger the treatment. Be forewarned though, read the directions carefully because the stronger retinol products can be quite irritating to the skin. Starting slow and gradually working your way up to higher concentrations will allow you skin to adjust to the treatments better. The vitamin A derivative, Retinyl Palmitate, is the less irritating of the Vitamin A options and is considered to have quite effective rejuvenating qualities.

The next most beneficial anti-aging skin rejuvenation treatment is a chemical exfoliant such as an alpha hydroxyl acid (AHA) or beta hydroxyl acid (BHA) product. The most popular of these acids is an AHA glycolic acid. Glycolic acid should be use in concentrations of 8% to 15% depending on your skin’s sensitivity. Start out with a lower concentration and gradually move up to a 10% then 15% concentration depending on your skin’s tolerance in order to avoid irritation.

The last consideration is including an antioxidant to contain the skin damaging free radicals as well as to encourage overall skin repair. Products containing Vitamin C Ester, Spin Trap, or CoQ10 are all good options to explore. Then, of course, there are other viable anti-aging treatments which can be incorporated into your regime depending on your particular skin rejuvenation needs which include DMAE, Kinerase or Kinetin, and GHK Copper Peptides. Finally, the most critical and essential aspect to any successful skin rejuvenation regime is sunscreen, at least once a day, each and every day!

Florida Laser Hair Removal - A New You
by Dion Semeniuk

Florida is the state of sunshine, sandy beaches, warm sun, and lots of skin! Without doubt, Florida is a gorgeous and fun place to live or visit. As you walk along the beaches, you will commonly see beautifully toned bodies, silky legs, smooth backs, and chests - not by accident mind you! Because spending time on the beach is a favorite pastime, no one wants excess hair. For this reason, Florida hair laser removal clinics are serious business.

Hair laser removal has a fascinating history that actually began in the 1960s. During that time, the possibility of having hair removed without daily shaving was exciting and new. Unfortunately, the trend hit so hard that safety factors associated with laser used were not much of a concern. It was soon discovered that for hair laser removal to be successful and safe, changes had to be made.

When first invented, laser hair techniques used devices that emitted one continuous wave but over time, researchers found this approach to be very unpractical since the laser beam could not be properly controlled. The result was that skin tissue was damaged. To correct the problem, a special shutter in a camera was developed called the Q switch. However, by the end of the 1960s, a small fiber optic probe was developed that could focus on specific hair follicles. The problem was that this type of laser hair removal system was marketed as being "permanent", which is untrue.

Today, when you visit a Florida hair laser removal clinic, you will find new technologies and state-of-the-art equipment that provides a comfortable experience. Although laser hair removal is not permanent, more of a reduction of hair growth and density, and the treatments can be a little on the uncomfortable side, the process is not bad. However, you definitely want to choose a Florida hair laser removal clinic that offers consultation so you can understand the processes and equipment used.

Once you locate the right Florida hair laser removal clinic that is right for you, just consider all the advantages. For example, when hair grows back in, it is usually lighter in color and with a finer texture. Additionally, this procedure is quick, convenient, and when performed by a professional, safe. Keep in mind that people with light skin and dark hair typically have the best results. If you are a dark-skinned person, make sure you work with someone skilled in dealing with dark skin in that it is more challenging.

Just as you will find many advantages with a Florida hair laser removal clinic, some disadvantages also exist. For example, laser treatments are expensive. In addition, if laser treatments are not performed properly or if a person has too much exposure to laser lights, lesions, burns, and skin discoloration are possibilities. Then, you have some potential for hair regrowth to be patterned or patchy, which is unsightly.

You will even find a Florida hair laser removal clinic offer services that can be performed in a matter of minutes. For the right equipment, this means having hair removed during lunch, opposed to spending hours for a procedure. The one thing to remember is that firm data on how long hair reduction lasts or occurs is still not confirmed. Even so, considering this procedure is relatively safe and results excellent, laser hair removal will continue to be a popular choice for men and women.

The cost to enjoy the benefits associated with hair laser removal would depend largely on where in the country you live, as well as the type of removal you want. For instance, the price for Chicago hair laser removal typically runs about $450 per session. However, many doctors offer packages, which offer more treatments at a discounted price, saving you a little bit of money. The most important decision based on any hair laser removal is the doctor. Unfortunately, today we see a growing problem with a number of "cosmetic" procedures. Permanent, and Less Painful: Laser Hair Removal
Author: ted belfour

Laser hair removal has increasingly shown itself to be a very popular cosmetic procedure. It is non-invasive, convenient, and fair less painful than some of the more traditional ways of permanently removing unwanted hair. Laser Hair removal is used to take away hair from those areas where it is simply unattractive to have. This can include chin, bikini area, armpits, back hair, or other areas, as well. The time of sticky, painful chemical applications is long gone. This procedure can be used for both facial and body hair.

The cosmetic process can take anywhere from only a few minutes to several hours. The time range varies based on the area of the body involved and the amount of removal. Laser hair removal is done by using a low-energy laser over the afflicted area. The laser energy passes through the patient’s skin, and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle (roots). A certain percentage of the follicles are instantaneously, not to mention permanently, disabled with each treatment. In most cases, no anesthesia will be required, or even needed.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal:
• Laser hair removal is a gentle, non-invasive procedure that can take care of undesirable hair from any part of the body.
• It leaves skin looking smoother and silkier, rarely with rashes, bumps, or other side effects.
• Larger areas can be treated more efficiently because the procedure removes more than one hair at a time.
• Minimum amount of discomfort.
• Replaces waxing, electrolysis, and razors, all much more irritating and uncomfortable than laser hair removal.
• Because it is so gentle, you can immediately return to a normal schedule.

There are still several important considerations that one needs to make before going in for laser hair removal. One is that this is not a one and done deal. Laser hair removal is an ongoing process that will require multiple sessions. Blonde, gray, and white hairs are less responsive than darker colors. Usually these can still be treated to some extent, but not always. If you do under go this treatment, there may be a slight reddening of the skin or minor swelling. Both of these are temporary. Your doctor may recommend various treatments or sunscreens: heed this advice.

Don’t let the warnings scare you off: laser hair removal is one of the most gentle of all cosmetic treatments, and even the worst of the side effects are so minor as to be easy to ignore. If that annoying back hair or chin hair is getting you down, this is a treatment that may very well be worth considering.

Laser Hair Removal Facts And Information
Author: Ivar Rudi

Learning about the process of hair removal, specifically laser hair removal is one that you will have to complete, if you find that you have unsightly or terrible amounts of hair that is growing in areas where you just don’t want it to be growing. Laser hair removal is easy, fast and one that will put a stop to that hair growth that you just don’t want to put up with any longer. Laser hair removal doesn’t hurt and it will put a stop to that growing hair you don’t want.

What you might not know about laser hair removal is that, most patients are going to experience a stop in hair growth. Most are going to notice a lesser amount of hair growth, but with continued treatment and continued laser hair removal, the hair growth will be stopped. The procedure is one that can be done in the doctor’s office, in a setting that is safe, sterile and by a licensed practitioner without problems or side effects. Laser hair removal does not hurt and can be done over a course of a few weeks for those who are tight on time all the time.

You can have this treatment done on your back, legs, on the buttocks, or even on your feet. If you have hair growing in areas where you just don’t want it to grow, you should consider finding a laser hair removal doctor and start planning your treatment right now. Those who have the lightest skin, with the darkest hair are tired of shaving all over their body, and laser hair removal is going to put an end to these problems. Those people with the lightest skin are going to see the fastest results as less and less hair growth will occur with each treatment of the laser hair removal process.

As with any type of medical procedure and changing of your body, there are a few disadvantages to the laser hair removal process. The long-term studies are not complete on this process, because the process is one that has only been used for a few years. This does not mean it is harmful or safe, but only that in the long run, over the course of thirty years, doctors and scientists can’t tell you with any certainty that the hair will not grow back at some point.

Not all of the hair is going to stop growing with the first treatment of laser hair removal. It is often found that at least three treatments; sometimes even more are needed in large areas, where the hair reduction and the laser hair treatment is used. Some hair will continue to grow, but with additional treatments, the thinning out of the hair growth will lessen and become less noticeable.

Hair that is not colored, that is not black or dark brown, does not seem to have the same results. Those with gray hair, red hair, or hair that is very light blonde in color doesn’t seem to have the same hair reduction, the same results as those who have darker colored hair do. The lighter hair does not respond to the laser hair treatment in the same manners.

Consider Laser Hair Removal
Author: Ivar Rudi

Laser hair removal is one that you can take seriously if you want to get rid of that hair growing on your butt, on your legs, or on your back. The rates are not all complete, but the studies are showing that a real reduction in hair loss is what you will have when using the laser hair removal system. The laser hair removal system uses light to change how the hair follicle acts. As the laser changes the hair follicle, this is going to put a stop to the hair growth, lessening the amount of hair growing on the back, on the legs, or on the neck.

Laser hair removal is not going to work as well the first session on hair that is light in color such as blond or red, or on gray colored hair. There are no long-term results that can be stated with any real certainty because the laser hair removal procedure is one that has not been established for the long term, it has only been used for the last few years.

For those who have darker skin, that are tanning all the time, that are generally dark in color, or those who are using any type of coloring tanning solution you will be required to talk to your consultant about this. You don’t want to have the laser actually burn your skin or discolor the skin in any way, so talking about this topic before hand will give you the best informed decision.

If you are considering using a laser hair removal treatment that is not through a license practitioner you may find that if not done properly you could have the skin turn colors, and the hair is not going to be totally gone. Several treatments are required for any laser hair removal system to be complete and to give you the best overall effects of removing and stopping the hair growth.

Be on the look out for those who are claiming that the process is totally painless. There are some people who are going through the laser hair removal system that experience clogged pores, acnes and other problems, while others do not. The general considerations are that most people are not going to experience these problems or pain from these types of problems but you should also be aware of them. Guaranteed 100% hair removal is not going to happen – no matter where you are going for treatment. No laser hair removal treatment is going to be 100% on the first treatment. Many treatments are needed to stop the hair growth.

Hair Removal - From Razor To Laser by Carol Evans

Looking to remove some of those unsightly hairs form certain regions of your body? There are several options, each with its advantages and disadvantages.

Hair removal used to be the sole territory of women (North American women, at that!) but such is the case no longer. Men are getting hair removed in ever greater numbers, and for most of the population that is a good thing. The question for both men and women who wan to have hair removed is; 'What treatment should I go for?" There are a few options, including the traditional razor, waxing, and a relatively new technique, laser hair removal.

The razor, of course, is tried, true, convenient, and cheap. However, if you remove that hair with a razor, be prepared for a lot of repeats. This can cause skin irritation and roughness. Also, using a razor on some of body parts is virtually impossible- men who want to shave their backs are going to be pretty much out of luck.

One alternative to the razor is waxing. Waxing is more expensive than using a razor, but it also lasts much longer. Waxing is also a better option for areas with a large amount of hair, and it even cuts down on some work. Waxing can also be done with more precision that using a razor, which is great for a nicely sculpted look.

The drawback to waxing, of course, is that it hurts. Make no mistake, you are ripping the hairs out be the root, and there is pain involved. Many people brave the pain, though, and are rewarded with a long term, beautifully sculpted hairless area. If the thought of waxing makes you want to run away screaming, there is another option.

Lasers are the latest rage in all sorts of cosmetic procedures, and hair removal is just one. Removing unwanted hair with lasers is painless, and as with waxing the effects are long term. Some people believe laser hair removal is permanent, but in fact it takes several treatments before the hair stops growing altogether. The downside to laser hair removal, of course, is the price. It is a very expensive procedure. Utilizing laser hair removal in just the bikini area can run upwards of $1,000. The cost of just one section of leg can be as high as $2,500!

Like a lot of areas in life, ease comes expensively. The more you are willing to spend, the more convenient the hair removal you may purchase. If you go the expensive route, make sure to shop around before signing the credit card bill!

All There Is About Laser Hair Removal
Author: tk tk

Laser hair removal is, technically speaking, epilation by laser or with the use of a special light. Besides the body, certain types of laser hair removal may safely be used to reduce facial hair as well. The laser (or light) of a particular wavelength is used to cause damage to dark elements in hair follicles. These elements are referred to as chromophores. They can be artificially produced or naturally occurring.

Today, most techniques target naturally occurring chromophores, in particular, melanin. Melanin gives colour to both hair and skin. Of the former, there are two types: eumelanin and pheomelanin. Eumelanin gives a brown or black colour. The latter gives a blonde or red colour. Since the dark matter in hair follicles are the target, only the former - darker - type of hair is suitable for this procedure.

While laser hair removal became a commercial cosmetic procedure about 10 years ago, it has been experimented with well before then. In fact, medical lasers have been used to remove dark spots, acne scars, other types of skin blemishes and even tattoos. The point about laser hair removal is that, it's not permanent. In fact, in countries like the U.S., the FDA prohibits the advertisement of FDA-approved laser treatments to be described as a method of "permanent removal". Hence, use of the term "permanent reduction" or laser hair reduction to describe the procedure.

A more realistic description of laser hair removal is the "permanent reduction" of hair. It should be noted that, it's sometimes required to have multiple sessions of laser treatment over a certain period of time to achieve this goal. There is also no guarantee that ALL of the hair in the area treated will be reduced. To actually guarantee genuine permanent hair removal is to risk genuine scarring.

Ideally, the first thing the individual should do is to consult a qualified dermatologist. They should be able to advise on the suitability of the procedure. In any event, results will be most noticeable on light skinned individuals with dark hair. A lot more care will need to be taken, if the procedure is done on darker skinned and/or tanned individuals.

What you should be careful about
As noted above, one is well advised to avoid establishments that make false claims. The following are some of the more popular ones:
There is absolutely no pain or it's virtually painless. It is for many without needing any relief from the pain, but not for everyone.
The safe, permanent removal of hair. Again, the safe goal is hair reduction. Permanent removal is possible with scarring.
No re-growth of hair whatsoever. To date, there has been no real, genuine, qualified and objective evidence to support this claim.
It's "laser electrolysis" or "lasertrolysis". Hair reduction via electrolysis is completely different from reduction via the use of a laser. Both have their pros and cons, in terms of suitability and effectiveness.

In the end, it's best to consult a qualified dermatologist first.

Laser Hair Removal and Me
Author: tk tk

This is about my first experience with laser hair removal. It was... well... memorable. I hadn't done my homework. I'd gone to a cheap place that was on my way to work. It was a small shady looking clinic. They called it laser electrolysis. Money was the issue at the time. It was almost half the price of some of the others I'd glanced over. Unfortunately, it shouldn't have been the driving issue. Consequently, I regretted it dearly. The people there said, it would be painless and a sure thing. Permanent hair removal for good. Looking back, I realized how important it was to have consulted a qualified dermatologist first and foremost. In several weeks, the hair had grown back.

By the time the hair had grown back, the thought of going through it all again had nearly vanished. It wasn't until chatting with a friend over coffee, did it come back. She told me about how she'd found a good dermatologist. She had some skin and hair problems that'd been nagging her for a while. Regarding the hair, her dermatologist mentioned the option of laser hair removal, which came in two main types. One involved the actual use of a medical laser. The other type involved something called a xenon flash lamp. While it wasn't a laser, it essentially did the same thing.

As she was telling me all this, I brought up my own horror story - made me feel really naive. She told me that, there was no such thing as permanent hair removal, nor was it completely painless for everyone. Her own experience had been pretty good. She'd just had her last laser session. Experienced almost no pain at all. In addition, having fair skin and dark hair, had made her an ideal candidate, amongst other things.

So it didn't take me long after hearing this, to seek out my own dermatologist for a consultation. It took me a while, but it was well worth the effort. It was explained to me that due to my relatively darker skin tone, I'd have to be extra careful. She also gave me a more informative summary about laser hair removal.

Anyway, by the end of the following month, I'd booked my first session for the procedure. It hurt a little bit, but it was nothing like the first time. Plus, the staff there were really kind and happy to answer some of the questions I had.

Three months later, I finally managed to get rid of that unwanted hair.

Laser Hair Removal and Pregnancy
by Alli Ross

Often times, the hormones produced during pregnancy can produce hair on your face and arms. If you are experiencing an increase in overall hair growth, it is due to the amplified production of various hormones in your body. Usually, this extra hair shows up on your face: above the lip and on the chin and cheeks. This is usually not real appealing for women. However, it doesn't stop there. It can also appear on your breasts, back, stomach, and arms.

This may make laser hair removal during pregnancy seem like a perfect solution. However, this is not necessarily true.

The excess hair may seem like a real downer now, but it will most likely go away after the baby is delivered. If you would like to have laser hair removal performed, it's best to wait until after the baby is delivered. In the meantime, it is best to shave or tweeze.

However, there are some exceptions. If you've had excess hair for some time and now want to get rid of it, it is perfectly safe to have laser hair removal done on your face during pregnancy.

Most people believe that laser hair removal is completely safe during early pregnancy. Many people would warn to stay away from the bikini area, though.

However, it is best to wait until after the baby is delivered. This way, the technician can do a proper consultation for you and tell you what your needs really are. In any case, you must consult your OBGYN regarding any type of treatment you are considering while you are pregnant.
