Hair removal methods and their benefits
by Kelly

Most of the women want to get rid of unwanted hair growth in legs, arms, underarms, bikini line or the face. There are number of methods that can help remove unwanted hair temporarily or permanently.
Shaving is the most common method where a sharpened metal blade is used to cut off the hair. This method is more beneficial to remove hair in underarms, arms and legs. It is the cheapest technique adopted for removal of hair and has no side effects. It can be done easily at home. Though it is a temporary method, many women consider it as best since it does not cause any pain.

Cream depilatories are gaining more popularity nowadays. The chemical called thioglycolate in the cream dissolves unwanted hair at the skin’s surface. It is more effective on disrupting the disulfide bonds that hold the hair and skin cells together. It is usually painless and removes hair fast.

Physical hair removal methods are inexpensive and effective. These methods do not change the color and texture of the hair. They also delay regrowth of hair. There are three basic types of physical techniques- plucking, waxing and sugar waxing. Plucking the hair with tweezers is an easy way to remove unwanted hair in legs, arms and underarms. It is more useful for removing hair in eyebrows. Waxing is the most efficient way to remove large amount of hair at one time. Here, wax is warmed and applied in the skin in the direction of hair growth. Then, it is allowed to cool. The wax is pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth. Sugar waxing is a popular method that requires thick sugary substance to remove hair. The main benefit of this method is it is easy to clean up the residues.

Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal method where a fine needle is inserted into the hair follicle and electric current is applied through it. This method burns the hair root and therefore restricts the growth of hair in that area. Repeated treatment can destroy the hair follicle. There are two types of electrolysis treatment- galvanic electrolysis and thermolysis. Sometimes, a combination of these two methods is also used to treat unwanted hair growth. Though this method may cause some pain, it provides permanent remedy for excessive hair in bikini areas, legs, arms and underarms.

Laser treatment is an advanced hair removal method. This method is gentle, effective and offer long term results. Lasers are used to burn the hair structure. This method works best for light-skinned people with dark hair. The main advantage of this method is that there are no adverse effects. Again, the treatment can be given in delicate areas like back, cheeks, upper lip, back, thighs, shoulders and so on. This method also offers long lasting results.

Eflornithine is a topical cream approved by FDA and it helps reducing the hair growth especially in face. It is not a hair removing cream or depilatory, but it decreases the metabolic activity of hair follicles. It should be used only on the face and under chin area. Since it does not remove hair, it should be used along with other methods for removal of hair like shaving, waxing or plucking.

The above hair removal methods seem to promise effective results to millions of people all over the world who feel miserable due to unwanted hair growth.
